Bluefeather Blue as the Sky...
...Free as the Birds...
...Light as a Feather
The birds were perfect for one another. The mother sat on the eggs, warming them, while the father preened her feathers. It was true love. The circle was going once more. Both were a brilliant shade of blue, blue jays, their feathers clean and beautiful. The female bird let out a soft chirp of pleasure, and the male flew away in search of more worms.
She had been watching them the whole morning, relaxing, letting the sun warm her spotted back. She loved watching birds, loved watching them fly and soar with ease. She loved their graceful and lazy circles as they flew, lowering themselves into the trees. She wished she could fly and be free with the birds. She was, in a way. She was able to run through SkyClan land, feel the wind through her fur. It was a good feeling. Often, she wondered what it was like to have kits and raise a family. Her tail swished as she thought of it, heart aching. She wanted to find a mate, but she wanted the right one, a tom she knew would be a good father to her kits, and love her.
A shadow fell across her, and without looking up, she said: "Goldenwing, please move. You're blocking my sun." Her voice was calm as she addressed her sister. When the shadow didn't move, she shifted to her side, looking up at the cat. "Yes? What do you want?" She was annoyed. "Why are you sitting here when the rest of the warriors are working their fur off looking for prey?" Typical Goldenwing. The she-cat sighed and her ears twitched. "Sister, I am taking a break. I have been hunting all yesterday. Besides, Dragonstar could probably use some fresh paws tomorrow."

How dare she!? How dare she lay around while she and the rest of the warriors work their tails off? Angrily, she stormed over to her and stood, blocking out her sun until she noticed. "Goldenwing, please move. You're blocking my sun." Polite at first, then: "Yes? What do you want?" Now she was rude. "Why are you sitting here when the rest of the warriors are working their fur off looking for prey?" She hissed angrily, fur pricking along her spine. "Sister, I am taking a break. I have been hunting all yesterday. Besides, Dragonstar could probably use some fresh paws tomorrow." Now the logical approach. How mouse-brianed did she think she was?
"Bluefeather, warriors are always fresh in the morning? Warriors get fat sitting around like you are, watching birds play!" Her voice was layered in disgust. "Laziness doesn't catch any prey!" Bluefeather now looked surprised, as if she hadn't expected her to say that. Too bad sister, I'm growing up!"Goldenwing! How rude of you to say that!" This made her angrier. "Bluefeather! How rude of you to let the other cats do the dirty work while you lay here on this stone all morning!"
The two were so caught up in their arguing, they didn't notice the approaching cat.
