Somebody get me through this nightmare (open)
« Thread Started on Sept 7, 2009, 6:08pm »

Opening my eyes I looked around the forest. It was scary, I did not know where I was or what had happened to me. Mommy had said that she would come back but she had not, and now i was alone in the cold dark forest, almost invisible in the darkness. After a moment I began to mew franticly. I wanted to be found. I needed another warm body to curl up next to and fall asleep against. I needed my mom and my siblings. I missed the warm smell of her milk and the softness of the cushy bead that we had slept on.Crouching down I let my shril mews ring thrugh the forest, just begging for someone to help me, be for i froze or starved to death. I did not even know what I had done to make her take me out and abandone me like this. I had listened to her and done what she had told me to do, and i did not bight her and scratch like my siblings. So why was it me that she took out and abandoned? Was it because I was under sized and could only see out of one eye? But maybe she would come back for me in the morning, yes that was probably it. Even thought I assumed that was what would happen I still let my shrill mews echo into the night.

Bluefeather
Blue as the sky...
...Free as a bird...

...Light as a Feather

She had been hunting in the woods, her paws cracking on the dried pine needles. The moon was up, lighting her way. True, it was late, but she just had to get away from the cramped warrior's den and the camp... and her sister. She heard a sound, not prey, prey never made noise. It sounded like a kit, loud mews that pierced the quiet of the night. She rounded a tree and saw a tiny shape huddled there. It was a kit, with a strange scent. She didn't know it. "Hush, little kit. It's alright. I'm not going to hurt you...."

I did not stop my shrill cries. Maybe mommy had just forgotten where she has put me, maybe she was looking for me. I would not let myself beleav that she had left me. How could she, I was only one moon old. I just kept crying into the night. I had to be heard, someone had to know that I was hear. Huddeling into the roots of a tree I started crying. What had I done for her to abandone me. I was cold, and the grownd was damp. The sky also looked like it would split and pour down rain at any moment. Hearing footsteps I Poked my head out of the roots and gave a shrill call out to whoever it was that was coming. I could smell that it was not my mom, but it could be someone that would help me find her.

Bluefeather

The she-cat bent her head down to the ground, as the cries continued. "Hush, it's okay. I'm here." She hoped her soft murmmurs would calm the kit. She found the kit, huddled. "Are you cold? Where is your mother?" The kit looked young, probably not more than a moon old. The kit might not be capable of speech yet. She wasn't sure if the kit understood her anyway. So, hoping that she could use this as another form of communication, she let out a soft purr. She tried to imitate the ones she had heard mothers give their own kits. This kit was probably also tired and hungry - but she wasn't a queen, and she wasn't giving milk. She didn't know of any she-cats that were queens. Perhaps she could foster this kit off of water and meat. Settling down by the mewing kit, she pressed her fur against the tiny body, hoping to warm it up. She never had kits of her own - no matter how much she wanted some.

She loved kits and young cats. She loved watching them play and sleep, watching them grow and learn. Perhaps she could take this young kit back to camp, and raise it to become a SkyClan warrior. Maybe, if she was lucky, her sister, Goldenwing, would help. But that was doubtful. Goldenwing was often a grump, and wild, hard to control. She wouldn't let that warrior near this fragile kit. Another purr thrumed in her throat, and she hesitantly bent her head to its head. She licked the top of the kit's head, hesitantly, unsure if the kit would like it. Obviously, it had to have a mother, and the warrior didn't want the kit to think that she was taking her place. "It's okay. I'm Bluefeather. I'm not going to hurt you."

I was scared, it was dark and cold, I just wanted my mommy. "I don oh. She sawd dat she be back." I squeaked out. I looked up at her with my big scared blue eyes. Crawling out from the roots the tree. I pressed my tiny black body against her, still huddled down on the grownd. There was a crash then the sky seamed to open up and pour out rain. Shreeking I huddled closer to Bluefeather. I did not like it. I had never been out int the cold befor. I was use to being snuggled up was next to my siblings and my mom. "My mommy cawd me bue" That was really the only thing i could tell her I did not think that was really a name it was probably just a name so that she could tell me apart from the others.

I did not know this new she-cat, but I felt safe from the unknown. Soon I was drenched down to the skin and freezing. It felt like I had been dipped into ice water. Shivering and sneezing I looked down at my huge paws. I wanted to be taken back into the warmth, I wanted to curl up on a bed and sleep. Taking in a breath I began to cry, the sobs wracking my entire body. I was already shivering and wet, I did not know what to do. "I wa my mommy," the rain was starting to pick up and hard things where starting to come down and hit me.

She did not know this kit named "Bue", but instinct told her to comfort and dry her as the rain poured from the sky. "It's ok. Your mommy will come back, but right now, I have to get you some place warm." Mostlikely, if this kit's mother hadn't returned yet, then she would be with StarClan. But the warrior didn't tell the small kit this, instead she mewed softly: "I'm going to get you warm and with other kits. You'll like it there; and your mommy will know where you are." She licked the kit, ignoring her own wet fur. She saw the kit start crying, and she felt strong sympathy for her. "Come on, let's go. I'll get you warm and dry. Blue, you said your name was?"

Standing, giving a kit one last lick, the warrior looked around. It was still dark and no one was around. She would have to carry the kit back to camp or risk her dying. As gently as she could, the warrior picked her up by her scruff. Having not carried a kit before, it took her a moment to get adjusted before she tried to walk. The kit hung from her mouth, and the she-cat tried her best to shield Blue from the rain.

The walk back to camp was a long one, and the whole time she was murmmuring words of braveness and courage, strength and wisdom to the kit in an attempt to comfort her. She let out a soft sigh of relief when she saw the distinct shape of the camp and the smells of many cats on the wind. Lowering the kit to the ground, she meowed softly: "This is my home, SkyClan. All the cats here are nice and you'll like it here."

DRAGONSTAR
could you kill me
if the
world was on fire
and nothing was left
but hope or desire

It would figure Dragonstar was the only one not cowering from the rain within the camp. Many were pressed together in the dens, avoiding the cool, damp air as much as possible. He, however, had no one else in his den, nor did he quite want to. He stood at the edge, the spray of water blown from the edge by the wind splashing on his face. His ears flickered as, through his reverie, he heard a soft mew. It was familiar, Bluefeather's voice, no doubt. But who was she talking to? It was worth investigating, despite the rains which were beginning to pound down harder.

When he arrived at the camp entrance, he stopped dead in his tracks, looking down at the little kit. His whole body had gone rigid, as his mind realized this was what it must have looked like when he arrived. That night had been raining too. The only difference was he had been a bit older, and badly injured. With gentle care that no one would have expected from him, he took the kit from Bluefeather and, somehow knowing how to carrying her instantly, he went sprinting up to the warmth and safety of his den, flicking his tail to invite his warrior to follow.

When the den had been built, careful planning must have taken part, as it was just as warm inside as it would be pressed up against other cats in the warrior den. Dripping wet, but not caring, he placed the kit carefully down on the moss of his own bed and began licking her fur backwards. It would be uncomfortable at first, but it would warm her and dry her faster. In between licks, he questioned Bluefeather, all social awkwardness gone for now that he didn't have a chance to think about how he could make mistakes.

Where did you find her?

The warrior was surprised as another cat showed up, and tensed, unsure whether he would hurt the kit or care for her. She felt responsible for this kit's life now - she had brought her into a camp full of older and stronger cats, not knowing how they could react. But she recognized the tom as Dragonstar, and relaxed. She knew he wouldn't hurt a kit like this, but his reaction surprised her still. He carefully took the kit in his jaws and ran her to his den. She had no choice but to follow. She was confused - she had never seen her leader act like this. She hadn't seen his gentle and compassionate side before.

She found space in his den and entered hesitantly. He had gestured for her to follow, meaning only that he had invited her. She was dripping wet and felt uneasy that she was dripping all over his moss. "I.. er... Sorry... I'm wet." She would have set she could go out and shake her fur out, but seeing as the rain was getting harder - it didnt' seem like it would help much. But she looked down and saw him licking the kit, unlike she had, moving the fur backwards to get to the skin. "I found her in the forest, in a clearing beneath some tree roots. I was out hunting. It started to rain on us, and she looked cold. I was afraid she was going to die, so I brought her here and i don't know what to do with her and she said her name was Blue and ...I don't want her to die...."

He nodded, pulling away for only a moment from his licking to glance at her, ever so slightly smiling at her apology. He might have even laughed, had there not been a kit with risk of dying before him.

So are we all. Moss dries.

He returned to his licking, feeling the kit begin to warm up, a soft, momentary purr escaped his throat. He pulled back again, moving aside so Bluefeather could come next to Blue.

Take over for a moment. I must go see the medicine cat, get some feverfew for her to eat. I'll be back shortly.

Bluefeather stifled a laugh at Dragonstar's calm reply, but she managed to pull it off as a cough. She watched him lick the kit dry with care. She nodded at his words. "Ok Dragonstar. I saw how to lick her." She bent her head as the tom left, and murmmured a soft comforting mew to Blue. Then she started licking, gentle and hesitant at first, to find out how hard to lick the kit. Then, as she realized the limits, she groomed the kit with less hesitation.
